Retreat at Breitenbush Hot Springs

Rest and Digest: The Replenishing Practice of Restorative Yoga

August 25th – 28th (Thursday 4pm – Sunday 3pm)

Join Danielle and Heather, August 25th – 28th, as we soak, steam, and plunge ourselves into a long, regenerative, weekend retreat… all the while immersing ourselves in the healing practices of restorative yoga.

Restorative yoga is, at its heart, a self-care practice designed to stimulate the relaxation response within the brain and body. This gentle practice aids us in releasing unnecessary tension by inducing the deep ‘rest and digest’ state attributed to the parasympathetic nervous system.

Each day will begin with an all-levels ‘Gentle Morning Flow’ yoga practice. After breakfast and lunch we will gather in the North Wing for Restorative Yoga ‘Labs’. It is in this shared space that we will:

  • Explore the modifications, benefits, contraindications and prop set-up for each of the foundational poses of a restorative yoga practice.

  • Work 1:1 with cohorts to practice the art of nurturing, supporting, receiving, and holding space for one another, including recognizing discomfort and when and how to apply prop modifications to support a diverse range of body types.

  • Learn breathing techniques that support the relaxation response.

  • Embark on group discourse aimed at integrating deeper insight into how our nervous systems work, how the parasympathetic nervous system functions as stress management, and how the physiology of stress impacts the endocrine system.

Interspersed throughout our long restorative weekend you will find ample time to soak, share in community, or curl up with a good book by the Breitenbush River.

So join us as we explore the path back to homeostasis – the place of balance and equanimity from which we move forward in vitality, longevity, and heart – a path to health not only for ourselves but for the interconnectedness and health of all beings.

*This workshop is open to anyone interested in pro-actively investing in healthy self-care practices. No prior experience necessary. For yoga teachers certified with Yoga Alliance, this workshop offers 12 CEUs.

About Breitenbush Hot Springs…

Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center is a remote forest sanctuary of timeless natural beauty on 154 acres surrounded by national forest. Blessed with abundant hot springs, a glacier-fed river, ancient forest and surrounding mountains, it is a place where you will disconnect from digital distraction and discover a deep personal connection with the natural world and with yourself.

Breitenbush is the largest thermal spring area in the Oregon Cascades. Every condition known to promote the emergence of hot springs exists here: subduction zone, volcano, glaciers, permeable rock, deeply incised intersection between volcanic ranges, watershed apex, floodplain and adjacent quaternary formation converge in this idyllic land nestled in a curve of the Breitenbush River.

The hot springs have been a place of gathering, rejuvenation, healing and relaxation for centuries. There are many options for enjoying the hot, soothing mineral waters. You’ll also find meadow pools, spiral and individual tubs, sauna, river, and a labyrinth.

All vegetarian meals are included and special accommodations can be made for other dietary restrictions.

PLEASE NOTE: Breitenbush was severely impacted by the Lionshead wildfires of 2020. Like the forest that surrounds this healing retreat center, the Breitenbush Community is in the regenerative process of rebuilding. They have informed us that there will  be construction on site during our retreat. We are immensely grateful for the opportunity they afford us  to spend time on this sacred land this summer, and we view it as an opportunity to support the amazing work this community is doing to rebuild and rebirth this very, very special place on earth.
