"I’ve been a member here for a little over a year and I love Yoga Refuge because its a really comfortable place to practice but I still feel like I’m being challenged. I mostly came to yoga because I needed to calm myself down, and there are a lot of different teachers here, different styles, so I really appreciate having a range of things to choose from, so I’m still meeting my mission to calm myself down, but I’m also able to build strength, to try different things and to always feel like I’m supported.”

"I’ve been going through a major transition in life, and Yoga Refuge has reminded me during that time to be kind to myself and to be aware and be present.”

"I think what initially attracted me to Yoga Refuge was what I felt was the social justice lens at the studio: I noticed that there were fundraiser benefit classes, also that there are classes available almost every day that are on a sliding scale for individuals who may not be able to afford a full membership, so that was important to me about the studio. And the studio itself is large and light filled and filled with wonderful personalities. I’ve made a lot of friends here...I’m fond of saying that yoga is transformative, but I think what I’ve come to learn is everything is within you, and yoga doesn’t transform you as much as it informs you...Also, you know what? You kind of feel like a badass when you’re 60 years old and you can do a headstand!"

"I have been going to Yoga Refuge for almost 4 years. I started coming here because I desperately wanted a yoga studio in the neighborhood and my friend introduced me to this place and it’s changed my life. I have a community here that I never would have had before, I tend to not go join the crowd, and Yoga Refuge has kind of pulled me into the crowd a little bit, and that’s been pretty cool. My yoga practice itself has become very important to me, so much so that I now have a home practice that I never did before I started coming to Yoga Refuge. I love all the teachers because they are very concerned about the way my body feels, and not the way you look. Yoga Refuge is great! It is my refuge, and when I’m away I feel it and I miss it.”

"I started doing yoga when I was in law school for stress relief and I’ve continued with the practice because I find it helps me in almost every aspect of my life. I have a very stressful job so I find that my daily yoga practice helps to keep me calm, and to come from more of a place of love. I really like the teachers here at Yoga Refuge, and yoga has really helped me to stay grounded and to take what I learn on the mat into my daily life.”

"I’ve been coming to Yoga Refuge for over 2 years. I had been a recent trauma survivor, and as soon as I started doing yoga again I was reminded of how that was something that was missing in my path towards healing. Yoga puts you back in your body and really in an intimate space with yourself, and Yoga Refuge just feels really like a safe place…At Yoga Refuge its about the emotional and philosophical practice of yoga as well as the body practice, so I don’t feel like there’s an expectation on my personal abilities. I’m supported for it to be about me and my practice, and it just feels really safe and inclusive.”
