Retreat at Breitenbush Hot Springs

Rest and Digest: The Replenishing Practice of Restorative Yoga
June 6th-9th (Thursday 4pm – Sunday 3pm)

Ayurveda teaches us that what is within is without, and what is without is within. Simply put, what we cultivate within our own internal landscapes is ultimately what we express into our external landscapes, and vice versa. The natural world (that is to say the entire world) teaches us that all ecosystems, from the micro to the macro, require balance to thrive. Yet daily, we face the challenging task of navigating a world that is increasingly out of balance and this is leaving many of us with a chronic sense of fatigue, overwhelm, and fragmentation, making it hard to cultivate the energy required to show up for ourselves, for our loved ones, and for our communities.

Join Heather Smith and Danielle Clothier at Breitenbush Hot Springs this June, and proactively engage in the utilization of tools that can support you in your journey back to balance and homeostasis.

Restorative yoga is, at its heart, a self-care practice designed to stimulate the relaxation response within the brain and body. This gentle practice aids us in releasing unnecessary tension by inducing the deep rest and digest state attributed to the parasympathetic nervous system. Open to yoga teachers, care-givers, healthcare providers, social justice workers, and curious practitioners alike, this four day, 3 night 'deep-dive' into the replenishing practices of restorative yoga, will guide you

  • in the fundamentals of ‘how’ to set up and sequence the foundational poses of a restorative yoga practice.

  • in an exploration of modifications, benefits, contraindications and prop set-up for each of the foundational poses.

  • to work 1:1 with their cohorts to practice the art of nurturing, supporting, receiving, and holding space for one another, including recognizing discomfort and when and how to apply prop modifications to support a diverse range of body types.

  • in an exploration of breathing techniques that support the relaxation response.

  • in group discourse aimed at integrating deeper insight into to how our nervous systems work, how the parasympathetic nervous system functions as stress management, and how the physiology of stress impacts the endocrine system.

The challenges that lie before us as a species demand new approaches to how we lead ourselves and others. Together, let’s explore a return to center, to wholeness, to balance. And let’s create the change we want (and need) to see in the world.

About Breitenbush Hot Springs

Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat and Conference Center is a remote forest sanctuary of timeless natural beauty on 154 acres surrounded by national forest. Blessed with abundant hot springs, a glacier-fed river, ancient forest and surrounding mountains, it is a place where you will disconnect from digital distraction and discover a deep personal connection with the natural world and with yourself.

Breitenbush is the largest thermal spring area in the Oregon Cascades. Every condition known to promote the emergence of hot springs exists here: subduction zone, volcano, glaciers, permeable rock, deeply incised intersection between volcanic ranges, watershed apex, floodplain and adjacent quaternary formation converge in this idyllic land nestled in a curve of the Breitenbush River.

The hot springs have been a place of gathering, rejuvenation, healing and relaxation for centuries. There are many options for enjoying the hot, soothing mineral waters. You’ll also find meadow pools, spiral and individual tubs, sauna, river, and a labyrinth.

All vegetarian meals are included and special accommodations can be made for other dietary restrictions.
